Welcome to My Simple, Crazy Life...

I have been wanting to get back into blogging for a long time now. I used to blog on a consistent basis for most of 2005-2006, and then I got into the "real world" and wasn't able to stay up all hours of the night to write and post like I was able to in college. However, i've chosen to get back into it for a couple of reasons:

1) I miss writing. I miss putting down into words what i'm thinking and feeling and doing. I was always into writing and reading since I can remember...(I was that girl who checked out 4-5 books a week from the library during grade school summers and read every single one). I kept journals and a diary when I was little. I was a writer and editor for my high school paper, then an editor for my community college paper, then the advice columnist for a while at CM-Life at CMU. Studying journalism put a damper on my love for writing...but blogging will hold me over until that novel (someday, somehow) gets written.

2) My friends and family are all over the place. Since I moved to Denver over two years ago, I have family and friends back in Michigan, but I also have family in LA, North Carolina and Phoenix. Friends in Atlanta, Chicago...all over the place. So blogging is a good way to keep them in the more "daily" details of my life, much more than what is discussed on a 10 minute call over a lunch break or texts throughout the day.

3) It's a way for me to keep connected with new interests of mine, like finding amazing recipes and then sharing them once i've tried (and hopefully succeeded).

I'm kick-starting my re-entrance to the blog world by writing this first post at 11:15pm, way past my bedtime. (Now this really shows i'm not in college anymore!) My husband, Brandon, is in Aspen for a work conference until Wednesday - and I feel as though my routine is completely thrown off. His absence has kind of thrown me back into my single days - or at least back to the days we were dating long-distance, where I ate when I wanted to, watched what I wanted to on TV (no football), and now - am staying up way too late. While the "freedom" is nice, I sure do already miss him after only one day. How did we do 1200 miles apart for 1.5 years again??

To start my new blog off...i'm pulling a quote from my old blog-dated Wednesday, July 19, 2006:

"You know you're surrendered to God when you rely on God to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force your agenda, and control the situation. You let go and let God work."

That quote is going to be my motto as I enter this work week...

I think it's time for bed.

  1. I'm so excited to see your blogging Diana! I see more and more of my friends are getting back into it. I have my own as well.

I love that "let go and let God work." Something we all needed to be reminding of everyday.

  2. So excited to follow! Although I'm sure it will make my writing sound more elementary than it already is. :) Welcome back!

  6. This sounds like a good way to stay connected...
Think a grandma can figure it out ??? Maybe this will make you seem a little closer ...

Your mom and I went to the Alma/Calvin game yesterday..you know, the one team that Alma always wants to beat..I can remember the days when a tie with them felt like a win !! Well, yesterday, after a slow start, the Scots managed to get two goals and win over Calvin by one point. We'll take it !!!

I loved your comment about interesting recipes...are you getting into cooking now ???
Don't you think we should have a "Lang family cook book" with all our family favorites ???

I had a call today from a couple who want to see my house, so they are coming on Friday.. I try to not worry about selling because that's really God's job now...but it will be interesting to have someone who wants to come and look....as we come down to the end of summer. There is one other very interested party but it involved the sale of their house.

Had dinner with Sue last evening and heard the beginning details about the wedding. They've been dress shopping..and are getting help from you..which is a great thing...ever thought about going into bridal consultant work ???

    Love you,

    Grandma

  7. Hey Grandma!

Yes...this is like the modern way to journal! ;) And you know who I learned how important that is from!

I am working on cooking more, it's been difficult with how much i'm at work - but i'm trying! The couponing is great, it's become a fun hobby and i'm saving a lot of money.

You will have to keep me updated on the house!

I enjoyed giving my tips to Jenn and Aunt Sue on wedding planning - I think it's fun to do...but that's a pretty crazy business!

    Love you!
